“My brethren, show no partiality as you hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.” (James 2:2)

I keep a Bible on my desk. It stays open to the letter of James. When the day pulls me in every possible direction, when someone visits with a broken heart, when I start to get too full of myself, if I need encouragement, this letter has the remedy. It is the perfect go-to reference for someone charged to tend to Christ’s flock (really, for any Christian), for it allows no room for hypocrisy, no resting on laurels, no lukewarm token expressions of faith, no false piety, no injustice, and it appeals to our sense of mercy, righteousness, and holiness in the name of Christ. Holy Brother of God, intercede for us!
